Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at cygnetyoga@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yoga has numerous physical and mental benefits, including increased flexibility, strength, and balance, reduced stress and anxiety, improved sleep, and better overall health. Working with an existing injury or condition is usually possible, but please contact the teacher to discuss your situation.  Equipment is available to adjust your practice to suit in many instances.

Cygnet Yoga Studio welcome students of all experience levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. Iyengar Yoga is taught at varying levels so you can choose  what will suit you best.  Slow Paced General for Beginners, Developing for those with 3 months experience onwards, and Over 50s for a slower paced (but still active) practice.

We use props and equipment to accommodate differing bodies.

From the stiff to the flexible, the weak to the strong, there is a way to work intelligently within your body.

You may find there are some differences in this style, but you may also find a lot of similarities.  Iyengar yoga is a form of Hatha yoga - hatha means physical, so we use the asanas (poses) as a way to focus the mind.

Iyengar yoga tends to focus on the details of the pose to align the bones and engage the muscles to minimise pressure on joints and create strength, as well as flexibility.  We are concerned with how the organic body (organs) are experiencing the postures as well as the outer structure.  Is there room for the heart and lungs and diaphragm?

We  do not practice just one sequence, but rather change our focus each week to cover a wide variety of postures over a month. Typically, we will do standing postures one week, forward bends another, then backbends and twists, and then have a restorative/pranayama session.  However - the teacher may change this depending on what they wish to focus on for the students.

We also play with the timings, so rather than moving through the poses in a flow style (which we sometimes will do in a more advanced class), we may hold poses to explore the details, and increase strength. Or maybe we will explore moving more quickly.  There is always a different way to explore the body - and thus its effects on the mind.

If you are from a different style of yoga and have not tried Iyengar yoga before - come and try it out.  You may receive a bit more attention as your postures are refined.  Please have a chat with the teacher and let them know of any injuries/conditions/restrictions you may have.

All classes are 90 minutes long.  Please try to arrive 5 - 10 minutes early so you can be set up and on your mat ready to start on time.

If you would like to bring your own equipment, I suggest a mat, 2 x blocks, 1 x strap/belt, and 2 x blankets. However, the studio does have equipment that you can borrow if you need to.

All hard surfaced equipment is to be wiped down at the end of class to ensure clean props for the next student.

Yes please.  It's a small space and that means numbers are capped.

If you are having issues with the booking system, contact me so I can help you out.

When you book into your preferred class online you can pay by PayPal.

If you do not want to use PayPal, OR, you would like to purchase a 10 pass card, you will need to contact me.  I will give you bank transfer details and a code to use when booking to bypass PayPal.

Over 50s classes are $19

Developing classes are $21

If you purchase a 10 pass card, it will take $1 off each class, but you are required to use it within 12 weeks (illness/injury excepted), so $180 for Over 50s, and $200 for Developing level.
